Intuit Dome
Inglewood, California: cross-lot braces above entrance-tunnel truck traffic where tieback agreements were unavailable.
A redevelopment excavation in San Bernardino may have to retain ground beside an existing building while leaving a route for excavation equipment. Cefali & Associates designs earth shoring for basements, foundation cuts, and retaining work around those constraints.
Our California experience includes cross-lot bracing above truck traffic at Intuit Dome in Inglewood and soil nail walls with soldier pile transitions at Vista Monterey in Corona. Each illustrates a different limit on where support can fit.
Excavation and construction
San Bernardino’s Downtown Specific Plan materials address land use, mobility, and infrastructure together. For a building project in an established block, existing utility lines, neighboring foundations, and public frontage can restrict both the cut and the reach of its support.
Soldier piles can retain a vertical edge while tiebacks or braces carry lateral loads. Anchor paths need available ground and appropriate rights. If support must stay inside the excavation, brace elevations and foundations need to fit around the proposed building work. The city planning context does not establish a particular soil profile or shoring system.
Excavation and construction
An internal support layout can obstruct the same route needed to remove soil or bring in concrete. Ramps and equipment also apply loads while the excavation is open. Structural shoring design needs those temporary positions and stages, not only the final basement dimensions.
At Intuit Dome in Inglewood, Cefali positioned entrance-tunnel cross-lot braces above the truck route where tieback agreements were unavailable. For a San Bernardino site, the proposed access and permanent foundations determine whether a similar type of arrangement is feasible. The contractor develops the installation and operating methods.
Comparable California projects
These documented projects show the engineering and construction conditions. Each example identifies its actual location.

Corona, California: soil nail walls changed to soldier piles at property-line easement constraints.
Engineering scope
A concept for bidding, detailed drawings and calculations, and engineering for construction-stage changes can be separate assignments. The proposal identifies the services included. Geotechnical assessment, water-control design, property rights, and contractor installation remain distinct responsibilities.
