Columbia Square

The approximately 60-foot excavation required steep and long-span anchors beneath narrow streets, with internal bracing and rakers used around historic buildings.

Project overview

Kilroy Realty's Columbia Square redevelopment of the old Sunset CBS property took the project 60 feet below the old media grounds.

Narrow surrounding streets required tiebacks to extend beneath the streets from property line to property line. Deep utilities were avoided using steep anchor angles and longer spans, with up to five rows of tiebacks in some areas.

Where historic structures were being refurbished, corner bracing and rakers supplemented the tieback system and helped resolve support conditions beneath buildings in multiple directions.
