Shoring and excavation support

Shoring engineering for Bakersfield excavations

Discuss your project

A foundation excavation or equipment pit can interrupt a construction route on a Bakersfield site even when the development has room elsewhere. An inclined brace may support the cut while occupying the same space needed for trucks or foundation work. Cefali & Associates designs temporary shoring with those stages in view.

At the Intuit Dome entrance tunnel in Inglewood, cross-lot braces were positioned above truck traffic where tieback agreements were unavailable. That documented work illustrates how structural support and access can fit together.

Equipment and truck loads at the excavation edge

Stockpiles, delivery traffic, and lifting equipment can load retained ground before the permanent building exists. Their positions relative to the cut affect the shoring design. A support arrangement based only on the finished site plan can miss a construction-stage load.

Bakersfield’s building information guide describes drawings, plans, and calculations for commercial construction. The shoring portion needs its own excavation geometry and load assumptions, tied to the geotechnical recommendations. Cefali’s structural scope can address that temporary condition alongside the permanent foundation designer’s work.

Braces around a foundation or equipment pit

Cross-lot bracing connects opposite sides of an excavation. A raker carries wall loads to a foundation within the cut. Both arrangements can avoid anchors beyond the site, but they occupy different working space and affect excavation and concrete placement differently.

The brace elevation and its removal stage need to fit the permanent work. Cefali develops the structural support arrangement using the proposed construction sequence; installation methods and equipment operation remain the contractor’s responsibilities. Send the pit sections, proposed access route, and available ground information to start the discussion.

Engineering scope

From a support concept to structural details.

A concept for bidding, detailed drawings and calculations, and engineering for construction-stage changes can be separate assignments. The proposal identifies the services included. Geotechnical assessment, water-control design, property rights, and contractor installation remain distinct responsibilities.
