Tieback shoring in West Hollywood

Discuss your project

Tiebacks can support a wall from the ground behind it while preserving working room inside an excavation. At the West Hollywood Edition near Sunset and Doheny, tiebacks braced most of the soldier piles for the below-grade hotel levels.

Cefali & Associates designed support for cuts varying from about 9 to 50 feet. The design used corner braces at selected locations to avoid obtaining tieback easements from neighbors.

Site conditions

Anchors and corner bracing along one excavation

Tiebacks along the main pile wall

The Edition used tiebacks with its soldier pile and lagging system. The anchor arrangement and pile wall work together to carry excavation loads. Retained height, ground conditions, and the available drilling space affect that arrangement.

Easements and corner support

At selected corners, braces provided support without obtaining neighboring tieback easements. The tradeoff is space inside the cut: an internal brace must fit the excavation and construction work, while a tieback needs room behind the wall.

Tiebacks at the billboard

A local secant pile wall used walers and high-capacity tieback anchors at an existing billboard condition. The anchors served that wall segment as part of its support system, alongside the different anchored pile arrangement used elsewhere on the excavation.

Engineering scope

From local project to your site

These projects show how excavation depth, neighboring structures, access, and the permanent work can change the support design. Your site needs its own geotechnical criteria and structural design. The contractor determines installation and construction means and methods.
