Soldier piles and tiebacks
Most of the work used cantilever and tieback-braced soldier piles. The support had to fit the excavation stages and heavy construction equipment loads.
At Intuit Dome on West Century Boulevard, the court sits more than 30 feet below grade. The depth and extent of below-grade construction meant the excavation could not simply slope back across the site. Shoring held the ground while preserving room for construction.
Cefali & Associates worked with Malcolm Drilling on temporary and permanent shoring. The design accounted for roof-truss cranes, concrete pumps, an earthen ramp, and other below-grade structures.
Site conditions
Most of the work used cantilever and tieback-braced soldier piles. The support had to fit the excavation stages and heavy construction equipment loads.
Tieback agreements were unavailable at the entrance tunnel. Cross-lot braces carried the earth loads and were set above truck traffic to keep access open.
Permanent shoring supported staged excavation and construction of blast and MSE walls at the sunken garden.
Published project work

A sunken court, multiple below-grade spaces, and construction access required several shoring arrangements on one Inglewood site.
Engineering scope
These projects show how excavation depth, neighboring structures, access, and the permanent work can change the support design. Your site needs its own geotechnical criteria and structural design. The contractor determines installation and construction means and methods.
